Worts Wins COM Sportsperson of
the Year
18th May - Ceri Worts was a nominee for both the Snooker and Pool sections at the annual section awards. His achievements were recognised when he was named Clubs of Marlborough Sportsperson of the Year. Congratulations Ceri.
Ceri Worts was again dominant in winning the COM 2018 Billiards Championships. Worts took the final 150-99pts over Malcolm Anderson. Graham Henderson took third place 150-128pt over Paul Shepherd.
Worts & Andrews Win Top of the South Snooker Pairs
19th-20th May - Top local Ceri Worts and Edward Andrews (Nelson) won their second consecutive Top of the South Pairs tournament at the Clubs of Marlborough. After some top competition throughout the weekend the top 4 qualifiers played in the semi- final. Both semi- finals were hotly contested with both going to a 2-1 result. Worts/Andrews beat Mark Friend (Nelson) /Bob Henderson. Brent Jones/Brian Dunn (Christchurch) beat Deane Campbell /Graham Henderson. The best of three final saw Worts on fire with breaks of 38, 31, 47, and 26 to cement his and Andrews convincing 2-0 win over Jones and Dunn. The highest break of the tournament 50 shared by Worts and Jones .

Brent & Denise Simmons take Snooker Mixed Pairs Title over Malcolm Anderson & Mary Landon-Lane. The best of 3 final went to one game apiece. The final game saw the Simmons pair with a good lead on the colours which was chopped back with a couple of good snookers. Finally Brent Simmons potted a nice pink to take a close match
Close Final for COM Singles Champs
Good competition in the opening round robin saw up and coming youngster Bronson Skipper defeat top players Ceri Worts and Greg Croudis. With four to qualify Malcolm Anderson was top qualifier followed by Skipper, Croudis and Worts.
The semi finals saw Worts defeat Anderson 2-0 and Croudis defeat Skipper 2-0.
The final was very close. Tied at 1 each the final game went to the black with both players having opportunities. Worts finally took the title 2-1 over Croudis.
Ceri Worts was in fine form to win the COM Invitation Handicap Snooker tournament . Worts (-21) giving away a massive 35 points on handicap beat Shane Geddes (14) of Nelson 2-1 in the final. Worts racked up a 52 and 29 break in the 2nd frame and many other good breaks on the day which included a 40 and 49. Nathan Geddes (Nelson) and Malcolm Anderson were semi-finalists. Tom Moore took out the plate against Ian Ord (Nelson).
